Mazagran was originally the name of a small city in Algeria, North Africa. The French army, which had left to conquer Algeria since 1830, arrived in Mazagran 10 years later in 1840.

Can you imagine how tired the soldiers are who had been fighting for days without sleeping. They tried to drink coffee with cold water or with alcohol if they were lucky to find! This cold coffee was called "Mazagran," and this tall glass of cold coffee was also called "Mazagran" later.
